(More customer reviews)We recently purchased this handheld monitor to replace a standard plug-in monitor. The plug in was tough because we had to move it from room to room but we got by. We looked at alot of handhelds and purchased the Swann due to price and the underlying technology. Swann makes very good and technologically sound camera and monitoring devices. They are established in providing security cameras generally and it seems like the baby monitor is a natural line extension. That said I rated this monitor a 4 out of 5 mainly due to the rather flimsy construction of the camera and handheld monitor case. The plastic feels rather cheap and I fear the baby getting hold of the monitor and slamming it to the ground. The clip on the monitor is very novel in that it can be used as a belt clip or as a stand if reversed. It is still early but we are pleased with the clarity of the sound and the picture works well through walls.

(More customer reviews)There was a lot of information out there about this product but I decided for $25 (Refurbished) I'd try it. Plugged it in, hit the "auto" button and away it went. It boosted the signal in an outbuilding from "Low" to "Excellent" and seems to be working just fine. I ignored the directions and the CD that came with it and didn't do any of the techno stuff like configuring the Host name, etc, etc. It just worked!

I'm quite surprised, the firmware setup is easy to use as well. This price can't be beat. I bought this for my college apartment. If I ever need another router, it will be a D-link.

(More customer reviews)Overall -this works fine for what I use it for..but the remote has to be pointed perfectly at the device for it to work...I am not used that with today's technology. For example, I can point my car remote in the opposite direction of my car from 200 feet away and it still works. For this strobe...you have to aim it like a gun and be within 10 feet. Also - I WAS surprised how fast the AA batteries died - only a few months. I'll update this if I can with my second batch of AA's...
Update: Tried more double AAs...and they died just a quick...it doesn't make any sense how this thing sucks downs batteries..
Update as of 4/11 - this device is now in the trash :(

Panasonic BB-HCM511A Network Camera with Two-Way Audio Review

(More customer reviews)For a while the Panasonic BL-C111a and BL-C131a were my favorite of the Panasonic lineup for monitoring the pets and vacation house. Now I discovered the BB-HCM511A and this amazing little cam is THE BEST! It has a 1/4" CCD detector instead of a 1/6" CMOS in many of the other models. I can get a night time view of the ranch because the CMOS goes down to 0.2 lux instead of 3 lux. That's about the limit of human night vision, or a moonlit night. I couldn't do that before with the BL-C111a cam that this replaced. Also the CMOS sensor has much better dynamic range, which simply means more colors. So whereas with the BL-C111a the shades of green on the plants look flat, the BB-HCM5111a gives the scene much more definition with all different shades: slightly bluish green, slightly reddish green etc. and this has the visual effect as if it had greater resolution. I love the PoE feature because I can just run a network cable without running a separate power cable. To take advantage of this you need a cheap PoE injector or a fancier switch that supports PoE. I use the SMC GS8P-Smart switch for PoE, which is a newer model router with good reviews. I also use the CoconutView Vista sidebar gadget so I can always see all of my Panasonic cams on my desktop. To download this gadget go to the Microsoft Windows Live Gallery on the web and search for CoconutView or Panasonic. There's also an outdoor model, the BB-HCM531a but it's almost twice as expensive and from the installation manual it appears that the BB-HCM531a just has a cover on the back that you screw on and tape over the cables to protect the connectors from moisture. So I think this one is a better value for placing under eaves and protected outdoor sites, unless your plan to install it where it will be directly exposed to pouring rain. Ok just buy it, you will be happy with this cam.

(More customer reviews)Got this camera to replace one in a video security system at my house. The one it replaced was a 480 line camera and had 36 LEDs. This was a definite up grade. The image, even at night is improved over the previous camera. The LED field of view is very focused and narrow, but very effective pointed at dead center of field of view. I needed to see a wider angle of vision at night, so I have had to add a IR flood illuminator to the camera. Don't take away from the camera for that, it sees quite a bit, I just needed to see a bit more than what it was designed to do.
Setting it up was kinda a pain, as the instructions sucked. i did contact the seller and they were great about offering some advice on proper setup.
Two tips.
You have to remove the housing to adjust the focus and zoom. When you finally get it set how you need it, use some kind of waterproof grease (I used some from my mountain bike supplies) to grease up the o-ring sealing the housing. This will keep moisture from getting into the housing and fogging up the inside of the glass.
Also, Rain-x on the outside of the glass to keep it clear during and after a rain.

Dakota Alert Long Range Alert System Kit Review

(More customer reviews)Here's a device that does what it says. I've been able to hear the alerting transmitter as far away as six miles.
This unit operates on MURS channels which are in the VHF spectrum between
151.82 mhz and 154.6 mhz, respectfully.
This means that this unit is also fully compatible with the Dakota MURS intercom system.
I have both and have units in my Shop, Barn and House.
I am able to hear an alert on all three and intercom as well.
I almost never have any false alarms. I've mounted the alarm unit on a tree at about 4 feet elevation. The beam width if fairly narrow but detects cars, people or animals out to about 50 or 60 feet.
One nice feature allows an external contact closure at all of the receivers when an alert comes in.
This could be used to open a gate or perhaps another outside alarm or even a garage door. Lot's of possibilities here.
Dakota also makes a hand held unit that could hear the alert and also intercom with all the rest of the units in the system.
Great for us farm operators that might be out in the pasture working.
Care should be given when adding to this system as Dakota also makes a short range alert transmitter that looks like the MURS units. It is not the same and operates on UHF channels.
Make sure the device stipulates MURS or VHF operation.

Good: Clear video in well lit conditions - has microphone that works pretty well - comes complete with a 60ft long cable and power supply - comes with two mounts
Bad: The box says it is indoor/outdoor - the instructions say it should not get wet and needs to mounted in a sheltered location (semi-outdoor?) - it cannot be mounted behind a window or screen for nightime use because the infared LED's will reflect back into the camera rendering it useless
This is a great camera for indoors for the money. It is not a great camera for outdoors. You'll need to spend more for that.

I also hooked it up to two different monitors that I had.I got the splitter at Radioshack. After it was all done and hooked up I was really impressed with it's clearity. It's remarkable. I have had it up for a month now with no problems.I emailed tech support asking about an adjustment in setting up the cameras and I got an immediate response to my question. It's even clear at night.I can see what's going on in all parts of my house.

I purchased the cwa2000 because of its increased range. I have to say that I am delighted with its operation so far. I have not had a single false alarm, nor has it ever failed to alert me when someone pulls into the drive. The sensor is approx. 350 - 400 ft. from the base station, and sends the signal perfectly through light trees. I like it so much, in fact, that I bought another unit for my parents as a Christmas gift.

Lorex LH328501C8 Edge 8 Channel 500GB Surveillance Dvr Securtiy System Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this system on December 20, 2010 and have not had a problem since installation which was easy and straight forward. I had to call Lorex technical support for two reasons which were taken care of within 10 minutes talking to their technical support. The first problem that I required assistance with was the setup to view my camera system via the internet using DDNS IP Forwarding. They were able to directly connect into my system via my PC and configure my router to properly forward the IP address of my Lorex system. The second problem I required assistance with was enabling the backup/saving of recorded video on my PC. Here again, Lorex technical support was able to directly connect to my PC and configure my PC to allow backup of my recorded video. In both situations, Lorex technical support was outstanding and in both situations, they not only resolved the problem but also patiently explained and showed me the changes that were required.
The Lorex LH328501C8 systems comes with everything that you will need to quickly establish a video surveillance system in your home. I was little disappointed with the resolution of their 420 TV Lines bullet cameras that are packaged with the system but we order two dome 480 TV lines cameras (Vonnic C502W) which we installed inside our home for better TV line resolution. The difference in resolution with just 60 TV lines is amazing so I recommend that you start with 480 TV line cameras and skip the 420 line cameras. However, the packaged bullet 420 TV line cameras work great for our outside surveillance needs.The system is awesome for recording all 8 cameras because of its 500 GB hard drive system and the best feature we enjoy is its motion detection system which alerts us when any camera detects motion. You can configure the sensitivity of each camera individually to your desire needs as well as the system sending you a snap shot photo of the motion detected image to your email address. Nice!.
I do wish that many of the features found at the DVR main system console were also available via their remote online system as well. The remote online system obviously allows you to view each camera live, allows play back recorded video for each camera and allows you to download/backup recorded video onto your PC but does not allow you to take advantage with some of the other configuration features found on the main DVR system console like turning off motion or changing motion detection sensitivity. I am hoping that future updates to their online viewer will allow additional features but monitoring your home while away is still all very impressive and without no noticeable delay in its real time viewing of your live video surveillance.
This is our first video surveillance system and decided to purchase this one after researching many others for several months and price comparison. This system achieved our main goals of removing blind spots from our home and for viewing our property while away. The price was Great. Lorex is Great. Amazon is Awesome.

Took the cable off, we found it had been badly scratched and showed bare wire. It is it unbelievable that this cable is so fragile, damaged in first installation. My old cable were much more durable. Stay away from it.
