I don't like how the keypad mounts it's kind of loose, the keypad buttons are loose looking because when you press them you can see them move like they're not placed properly or something; lastly I don't like how when the alarm is ringing and you press the keypad to enter your code the keypad key beep overrides the alarm and makes it sound choppy. Overall I would recommend this alarm to my friends because it does a good job for a good price.

(More customer reviews)The camera itself is good for the price. However, the instructions to install were terrible. It is a newer camera for an older system. It was hard figuring out how to adapt. The diagram on the instructions did not show the camera that was sent and did not have areas that were shown. If it was like the pictures, it would have been much easier to install. Once I figured out what to do (thanks to Radio Shack employee that knew what adapters to try) and I got it installed, the camera is great. Very clear, the night time vision is real clear and good. I'm not sure how easy it is to install with a newer system, but once installed you would be very happy with it.

In fact mine doesn't go off until I walk right up to it within four feet! I set it up in my small bedroom-size home office, and was able to enter, work at my desk, and leave without it ever noticing. Unless your intruder does jumping jacks within a couple feet of this device, it's worthless. I've sent mine back to Amazon.

So let's start with probably the most important aspect of a security camera: image quality. This camera excels at that. Although it may not record at megapixel resolutions, the lens is of a high enough quality to produce clear images. Couple this with the 18x optical zoom, and you are able to peel the license plate off a car at quite a distance.
Notice the 0.005 B&W lux sensitivity (the smaller the number the better), this number is very important if you intend on using the camera to capture outdoor activity at night. Even at this sensitivity you are not going to get usable images in a poorly lit area. But if you throw a few lights out there and make sure they don't shine into the camera, you should be able to record something meaningful.
However, night time shots are difficult even for the best of security cameras. Don't expect that you will be able to clearly record detail of a fast moving object at night. Thus, if you are trying to record license plates, try to situate the camera so that vehicles will be driving directly towards it -- this should minimized the apparent movement.
Ptz functionality:
What can I say, it pans & scans quickly and quietly. You can set it to 20 preset positions, which you can flip through manually, or set the camera to automatically visit sequentially. When using the web interface, you can just click on whatever part of the image you want to focus on the and camera will figure out how to get there. If you want to zoom in on a specific area, then you just click and drag out a box, let go, and the camera will zoom in and pan appropriately.
More on the web interface:
It is slick and functional. The first page you see is the live demo page, which allows you to control all of the ptz functions, plus the iris size, and focus. You can set the presets, and all of the other typical settings (IP, time, video, audio, users). I've tried the interface in IE and Firefox and it appears to work perfectly in both.
Software:
I didn't try the Axis's software, I'm sure it is fine but it is also expensive. Instead, I opted for BlueIris. [...] software, and it does everything I need. It supports this camera, so you will be able to use the PTZ functions (although not quite as easily), and you will also be able to jump between preset locations.
In conclusion, if you are looking for a quality camera without going too high, this is a pretty safe bet.

(More customer reviews)Yes, this is what I was looking for, works as expected. Very clear image from any computer, I watch home in my IPAD, I can "move around home" even with 0 light, the infra red thing works great, and you can plug it anywhere if you have electricity close.
CONS. I have to wear headphones lo listen even that is to low, and the microphone could be better, the most anoying thing is, that when I unplug the unit from the electricity I have to set the hole configuratuon again, it means, go to the main computer in which the program is installed, find the IP, which changes each time the unit is unplugged, reset my Ipad configuration. So , what will happen if, the electricity runs away when Im not home, or accidentilly unplugged, I wont have this wonderful service. But, for the price, it worth.
I would give it 5 stars if my cons were solved, maybe the next generation will, I will wait, because I am going to get a couple more units

(More customer reviews)Read the description carefully. It states the speaker range is 50' not the microphone. My dog stood 10' away from it and even with the sensitivity on high and her barking right at the thing it wouldn't trigger. Matter of fact I never could get it to trigger with barking. The only time it did go off was when I put the batteries in for the first time and my husband was mowing the lawn on his big riding mower and he knocked into a chicken wire fence which made me run out to get it with the unit in my hand. Even then it didn't go off till I was about 4 feet from the mower.
I also couldn't get it to just make the ultrasonic sound. Even when switched from audible to ultrasonic you still hear a noise. Not just me but my husband too so it's not a case of super human hearing on my part :-)
Yes the timer option is very nice. This was actually why I purchased this one over the others as we only wanted to stop the night barking. But what good is the timer function if the microphone can't pick up the barking?
So read these descriptions carefully when looking at these control units. Unless your dog always barks in the same spot and you can place this unit under 4 feet from them then pick something else.

I found the product manual on the manufacturer's website. It's not very clear, either, but it mentions in passing somewhere in the middle that the remote is IR (and it's probably the small rectangular thing on the bottom). This means it will have to be in direct view of the thermostat.

(More customer reviews)Prior to this, I had thought I had to run a second cable throughout the house to get both my four modulator channels and the cable TV in all rooms; either the cable interfered with the modulator channels, or vice versa, or both. The highest channel on the incoming cable is 89. I inserted the four modulator channels two channels apart starting with 100 (that is, 100, 103, 106, and 109). The way to use this item is to filter before the cable goes into the modulator; just screw this filter onto the cable TV input to the modulator, connect the incoming cable TV to it, set your channels above 99, and put your house cable system directly on the modulator output. Everything looks great. Picture and sound are clean (including ProLogic) on all the cable channels, and clean on the four modulator channels. If that's what you're trying to do, this little item can save you a lot of money, a lot of hassle, or both.

The IP camera I have comes with a web interface for realtime viewing from a PC in the local network. This SSL VPN router allows me to connect back to the web interface of my IP camera when I am at work. The out of the box experience is good - I have no trouble in setting it up and connect to the internet with my cable modem. After I changed my default password, created a few user accounts for my family members, and enabled the Remote Management, I put the device into test. First, I have to find the ip address that my cable company assigned to me and the ip address of my camera given by the router - all available from the router administration web interface at http://192.168.1.1. When I was at work the next day, I was able to get to the internet address of my SSL router and connect to my home network within a minute. Just want to share my success story with the community that might have the same need. The QoS feature may come to rescue when I am working from home, using my company's VPN, and my kids are playing bandwidth extensive internet games. I have to see how well it would work.

(More customer reviews)I purchased 3 of these cameras to go with a Q-See 4-channel PCI card. I set up all three on my office desk, under good lighting. One camera has a decent image, one camera has a poor image, and the image from the third camera is so washed out that it is practically useless. The night vision feature allows you to make out shapes from very close range, but not much else. Even on the "decent" camera, the color is poor. Prior to this purchase, I was looking at some demo systems at Sam's club, and the image quality with these cameras is much, much worse than even the entry-level, bargain cameras that were being demonstrated. I would recommend that you keep looking for a better camera, as this one has a poor picture quality.

(More customer reviews)Much to my surpise after glowing reviews from others, this unit would only open my garage door about four inches. It won't close it at all.

I have a Liftmaster Security Plus garage door opener built in 1999 or 2000. That's clearly within the advertised parameters.

The customer support desk hours are only 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday (exactly when I need to be at work, not standing in my garage debugging something like this), so I checked the manufacturer's website at www.skylinkhome.com.

I found this chilling remark in the FAQ for the model 89 (that is what you're considering here - A Skylink Model 89):

"If your Chamberlain®/LiftMaster®/Sears® Garage Door Opener has the 'Learn' button and happened to close and then open for few inches. The model 39 and model 89 might not compatible to your existing garage door opener. Please contact our customer support for details at support@skylinkhome.com."

In other words, sorry, you're screwed. Enjoy trying to return your on-line purchase.

Of course, Skylink will be happy to sell you, for another $23 plus S&H, their model UR100A Universal Receiver. With benefit of this additional gadget, the model 89 universal transmitter actually becomes more universal. At least, 99.9% universal. The web site does say that it this combination "99.99% works with most brands of garage door openers".

Great, huh? Spend A LOT of time with their web site FAQ before buying. Universal? Not even close...

You MUST follow the instructions and use the magnet only on the side of the sensor with the grey mark on it. If you put it on the opposite side, the magnet will need to be nearly in contact with the sensor to work. Using the magnet and sensor as instructed, you can span a gap of about a half an inch before the sensor trips the base unit. Highly recommended!!
