We had a 2 year old ARM Electronics 4 ch. DVR that was having interference problems within the 4 ch. video card which the system detected as motion so it was almost always recording. ARM wouldn't respond to any of my emails to support. So I bought a Night Owl Lion that is about 1/3rd the price of an ARM 4 ch. DVR. The Night Owl is FAR superior in picture quality. The remote viewing software is also much better and being able to access from IE7+ is really nice, instead of having proprietary viewing software. Another smart feature is the file names are the time of day/date which makes it easy to find a specific file. I've read reviews about terrible Night Owl support, but luckily for me I had no issues. As with any DVR behind a router or firewall you will need some IT support if you don't know how to manage your router or find your IP, Gateway, set-up Port Forwarding etc. You'll need to know what type of IP you have from your ISP, and the Night Owl manual is very well written for all situations. We did have to change both default ports (80/9000) to (1024/3550) but that was super easy in the menu interface. The ARM was far more obtuse in finding files. Time will tell how long the Night Owl Lion hardware will last, but for $129 it's a no-brainer. Night Owl has built a better mousetrap. (oh, and if you happen to hit "reset" in the remote viewing interface it will nuke your password and you can't get in. There's no documentation about what to do, but I rebooted and it came up with the original PW I set-up)
