I went through 2 other 5.8GHZ phones(Uniden TRU & Panasonic) that didn't get good reception at all in my house before I found the DECT technology. The DECT 2080-2 has excellent sound clarity. I can walk outside or into my garage without a problem which I couldn't do with the 5.8Ghz phones.
If you are familiar with the Uniden brand of phones, this phone has some of the same features. Caller ID is easy to read the phone number and name of caller. Speakerphone is loud and clear. I choose the 2080-2 because the handset does light up when you use the phone which I find to be very useful at night. The phone is limited on ring tones - only 7. I'd like a bigger selection but I can live with it.
We haven't experienced any of the "Out of Range" problems like over reviews have stated. We had that problem with our 5.8GHz but not the DECT.
Answering machine is simple to set-up and use. Messages are clear and easy to pick up. For this price, I would definitely recommend you buy!
Added August 2010 - 3 years later this phone is still working great for us. We still love it.
