AmerTac RFK100LC Wall Mounted Switch and Plug-in Receiver Review

AmerTac RFK100LC Wall Mounted Switch and Plug-in Receiver

The only reason I'm not giving this product 5 stars is because of the cheapish styling. It has a one-piece rocker switch/plate cover that looks like it could break easily. However, I've had mine for about 2 years so far and it's still intact.
This unit has three channels, so you can have up to three different sets of these in your home. In my living room, I have two sets, both on the same channel, controlling two lamps across the room from each other. Since they're both on the same channel, either transmitter can turn on or off both lights (kind of like three-way switching for multiple lamps).
The rocker switch makes it seem like you'd press up for on and down for off. However, it's just a toggle switch -- there's no difference between up or down.
Leviton makes a more-attractive switch (although they only sell the almond color here on Amazon). It resembles a regular hard-wired rocker switch commonly found in homes. However, it only has two channels (so you could only have two sets of these in your home), and it's VERY tempermental. It will randomly switch off and sometimes constantly switch off -- very annoying.
I would like to see X10 come out with one of these devices, but their controllers resemble remote controls too much. They need one that looks like a regular wall switch. So why X10? First it can handle 256 channels -- not just two or three. Second, it can integrate with your PC for home automation. Third, it costs about the same as one of these other more-basic models.

LYNXRPK-2 - Wireless Self-Contained Security System Review

LYNXRPK-2 - Wireless Self-Contained Security System
Average Reviews:

Be very careful that you are not mislead as I was about compatibility with Honeywell's Total Connect software. This software claims to allow full control of your alarm through both an Internet and Iphone app. Once you sign the contract and install the software you will find that basically all that works is a basic remote keypad. ALL of the other features that Honeywell demo's in their videos and brochures do not work. I repeat ALL of the other features do not work. Do not expect to configure devices, event notification, x-10 devices. Of course Honeywell Ademco will not talk to you because they only talk to alarm dealers. You will find this out after hours of trying to make it work and then an apology from a salesman.

GE 2 in 1 - Internet & Standard Phone Review

GE 2 in 1 - Internet and Standard Phone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a computer technician I have installed the software and set everything up and my phone says I am connected to skype (all though it can not read my contacts, I am told you have to manually enter them). I can not call out or receive calls even though it says I am on line and I am able to do it from the computer. I have been on line with support for over 4 hours now. Each time getting transferred to a new person, now I have the supervisor on the phone who like the last 8 people have no idea what skype is or have ever used it. Like the last 8 people he is reading the troubleshooting tips out of the manual and wants to know if the phone is powered on and is my computer powered on. The last technician was unaware this product comes with a cd or any type of software and the phone still does not work so back it goes, no one should have to go through this. the supervisor I last person I spoke to "tells me there is no one here that has used this phone before, we are unable to help you. I would suggest you return it"

Cam2Life Plug and Play MPEG4 Wireless Network IP Security Camera with Night Vision, Records Clear Video with Sound - Features Remote Viewing, Scheduling, Motion Detection and Email Notification - Easy to Use, Zero Setting Required

The camera is really easy to set up and the technical support is very good at emailing you back with help files.
The night vision works really well but you do see a ring of red led's around the lens so it's not hidden from sight when in darkness.
After a bit of tinkering with the 3g setup on my phone I can see the images from anywhere. Also the web based viewer works great but it's not too clear how to get there. (go to the company's website, either starvedia or cam2life and add "/online.html" and you'll just put in the camera ID and password. Must use Internet Explorer for web viewer though, Mozilla won't work.
Overall, very happy with it. A bit expensive but I am considering adding another to the network.

Keyless Entry Remote Fob Clicker for 2005 Ford Econoline With Do-It-Yourself Programming Review

Keyless Entry Remote Fob Clicker for 2005 Ford Econoline With Do-It-Yourself Programming
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased two of these keyless entry remotes for my 2005 Ford Escape. It was very easy to program and the price was great. Much cheaper than buying from a dealer. I purchased the car used and received one very worn remote where the remote lock wasn't even working so it was almost worthless. I was able to use it to unlock the car plus it had been used quite a bit so the pictures were halfway worn off. I really wanted to have one for each key and found these on Amazon. I also was able to match the model number online with the original one that I had to make sure this would work. Both worked so I now have a spare in case I need it. I'm very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend it to everyone. It's a fraction of what the dealer would charge for the key fob and the cost of programming it. No need to pay all that money to someone else. Shipping was also very quick which was a plus.

The product arrived in good condition. Set up instructions were include. It work intermentent, I'm still troubleshooting my system with the Ford Dealership; in other words, it seems that the problem isn't the keyless entry but a malfuction on the Van itself.

Q-See QSTD2408-500 8-Channel H.264 CIF Real-time Recording DVR with Mobile Phone Surveillance, Remote Internet Monitoring and Pre-Installed 500GB HDD Review

Q-See QSTD2408-500 8-Channel H.264 CIF Real-time Recording DVR with Mobile Phone Surveillance, Remote Internet Monitoring and Pre-Installed 500GB HDD
Average Reviews:

Overall this is a nice product. There are somethings that will make you want to run to the nearest medicine cabinet and pull out the asprin but overall the DVR works as advertised.
CONS:
1. Noisy, if you planned on placing this somewhere in the open plan on hearing it run, the fan is very noisy. Not a problem for my installation as it is in an area which I seldom enter.
2. Big. The unit is larger (Depth) than some others but again not a big issue if you have the room for it.
3. Manual. Ok, this will make you run and buy another bottle of asprin. The manual is written in an "interesting" fashion. You can download a copy of it from the Q-See website if your interesting in seeing it before you buy it. Most of the setup is easy, you may have some problems with the internet portion, but most teenagers should be able to get that hooked up for you in no time.
4. Mouse could be alot better quality than what they put, but with the cost of a good mouse being as low as they are not really a problem overall. Mouse is USB by the way.
PROS:
1. Handles the inputs of both PAL and NTSC without problems (yes, only one type at a time and you can not mix them but most people do not worry about that so pretty much a non issue).
2. Is 110/220 volt. Nice for those who may move around alot or live outside the USA.
3. Good quality recording, monitoring and overall video feed. The live view has a very slight delay but nothing to really worry about. The recording comes out a very good quality. Have not been able to test all 8 cameras at same time yet but will update when I can for now this comment is based on 5 cameras at once.
Overall I would give this a 4 as the item works exactly as advertised.
