(More customer reviews)I researched this system pretty carefully, along with similar products by AAS. For the price paid, I feel like I got my money's worth. it seems like a waste of money to me to pay a monitoring service like ADT to safeguard your property with equipment that you're essentially leasing when you could do it yourself for hundreds less a year. That being said, this is a significant investment that will require you to spend a few hours setting up/programming/installing the components. But I cannot put a price tag on the peace of mind it brings to me and my family, as I'm a light sleeper who's always worried about a break in ever since it happened to me in college. Now, I can rest assured that this system will alert me and my loved ones if anyone ever attempts a burglary or home invasion.
PROS OF THIS SYSTEM:
- Affordable price for everything included; consider that this kit includes the external wireless siren and glass break sensor, which if you were to price them separately on AAS' web site, would cost a lot by themselves.
- Very loud alarms. You may want to install and conduct tests with earplugs in place.
- Accurate motion detectors; they don't miss a trick
-Ability to build onto your system with additional components that can be purchased later. This was very important to me.
- 4 keyfobs are a good idea; 1 for me, 1 for the wife, 1 for backup, and 1 for upstairs. We actually arm our system at night when we go to bed by clicking on a keyfob that we have attached to the side of the top of the stairway and I installed a rope that we latch across the stairway at night so that no one accidentally goes downstairs and trips the alarm.
- Door chime function is nice; good to know when someone comes in the front or back door (eg, kids late at night).
- Good customer service; AAS got back to me quickly by phone and email when I had a couple questions.
CONS OF THIS SYSTEM:
- Instruction manual is not well written and is hard to follow at times, but you can figure things out pretty well on your own.
- The alarm chirps quite loudly when you arm or disarm the system. I was hoping for a mild chirp that lasts a half a second, but the signal goes on for about 2 seconds and can wake up the family/neighbors if you come in late at night.
- Signals from the keyfob aren't always instantly recognized by the keypad. Sometimes I have to press the "disarm" button twice, for example, for it to work.
- Pet immune capability of the motion detector not very good. My 5 lb. cat triggered one of the detectors.
Overall, I recommend this product based on its expandability, quality components, and value. For less than $300, you can't do much better based on my research. I also enhanced my property's overall security with video cameras, motion detector outdoor lights, panic buttons, defense weapons and we have a guard dog. It also helps when you have a police officer living on the block.
