(More customer reviews)The Visonic NEXT Plus K9-85 is a passive infrared (PIR) detector that works. Yes, this is a wired unit and so the person performing the installation should be skilled and have the tools for a neat and trouble-free installation. The installation guide is geared towards the experienced installer or technician; it will not walk you through the installation step-by-step.
Why Visonic you might ask? I needed a compatible brand to replace an alarm company-installed PIR detector that occasionally false triggered. It was located in the basement within arm's reach of a Romex-wired electric service panel and a Verizon FIOS terminal. The alarm company already visited and replaced the troublesome unit with an identical PIR, but the problem did not go away. I had to keep the zone bypassed to prevent further false alarms. A second PIR in another section of the basement did not have any problems. So, I then began to suspect radio frequency interference (RFI) might be causing the false alarms. I needed a better hardened but reasonably priced replacement, and Visonic appeared to have a solution.
Although the spec sheets for both the Visonic NEXT Plus K9-85 and the existing PIR state 20 V/m RFI protection, I liked the fact that the Visonic spec sheet went a step farther by stating the immunity frequency range: 2 MHz to 2 GHz. To me, this is solid spec that indicated the Visonic NEXT Plus K9-85 is worth a try.
I performed the swap on February 25. Yes, I know that is recent; but so far, we are sleeping soundly.
