4UCAM Handheld 2.5" Video Color Baby Monitor 2.4GHz Wireless Camera Daisy-(Day & Night) (Video & Audio) Infant Nursery Monitor Review

4UCAM Handheld 2.5 Video Color Baby Monitor 2.4GHz Wireless Camera Daisy-(Day and Night) (Video and Audio) Infant Nursery Monitor
Average Reviews:

I was a little nervous when I ordered this monitor because there were no reviews on it. I read reviews on all the other video monitors available and almost decided on another brand, but I really really wanted to get the "dancing daisy", I thought it looked so cute!! I'm still a little dissapointed because I wanted to get the yellow/orange model but because it didn't go with my nursery I had to go with the pink one. And I have to say, I don't regret my purchase at all.
The camera looks soooo cute I will buy another one if/when I have another baby (you can use up to 4 with just one receiver). It's not only that it looks cute, it works great too. I had a little trouble at the beginning finding a right place for it, I didn't want to place it on the changing table because I could only see my baby through the rails, so I "clipped" it to the side of the crib and now I get a clear picture from above. The picture is actually better than I had expected (black and white at night, but very clear), and the sound is great too. I did have a little interference with the video at first but moving the receiver around solved the problem. My bedroom and the nursery are really close, wall to wall, I do not know if this has anything to do with it or if it actually helps in getting a clear image.
Also, I had to set the volume to the lowest setting I could because there was a little static but it goes away by lowering the volume. I had this problem with my sound only model too, again, do not know if it's because of the short distance between monitor and receiver.
The only thing I don't like is that the video monitor is really bright, and I'm a light sleeper, a little noise or light wakes me up, so what I do is I wait until the baby falls sleep, turn off the monitor and leave my sound only monitor on. If she wakes up during the night I just turn on the monitor and see if she's just fuzzing or if I need to go and get her. One night I forgot to turn on the sound monitor in the nursery so I had to leave the video monitor on all night, I just placed a dark paper on top of the screen and that way the light didn't bother me.
I should also mention, the camera itself does not have an on/off button, so you either leave it on all the time or just unplug it when not in use (which is what I do), it would be nice to just turn it off but unplugging it is not such a big deal.
All in all a great monitor, it looks and works great. I'm really happy with my purchase and would recommend it to my friends. Actually if you recommend it to someone the seller will give you and your friend a $5 cash back. I would list my email to take advantage of this, but I don't believe amazon would let me do it, ha!. Oh well. I hope this review helps someone, this camera is so cute I don't understand how there are not more reviews on it.
I will try and take pictures one of these days, maybe I'll be able to get a few good ones to upload here.

Cisco-Linksys WVC11B Wireless-B Video Camera Review

Cisco-Linksys WVC11B Wireless-B Video Camera
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this camera to view activities in a datacenter. While the packaging specified compatibility with various Windows platforms it did not make it clear that the image can ONLY BE VIEWED FROM WINDOWS PLATFORMS USING IE. So, the center managers Solaris box could not view the image and my MacOS X workstation could not view the image. When I viewed the image from a Win2000 box the quality was horrible, very grainy even in a well lit area. I have ended up connecting an Apple iSight to one of the rackmounted XServes in the center and using getting a much higher quality image for considerably less money. I really expected better of Linksys. One star is being kind.

Unlike standard web cams, that are anchored to a PC, the Linksys WVC11BWireless-B Internet video camera has its own web server. It can connect directly to a computer network over a Wireless-B (802.11b) connection or via a 10/100 Ethernet cable. From there, it provides MPEG-4 video compression for a 320x240 video stream that can be sent to a web browser anywhere in the world. It also works well as a monitoring or security device to keep an eye on your home, kids, workplace or just see whether the squirrels are getting into your birdfeeder. Other features include time stamp and text overlay, the ability to connect up to 4 users simultaneously, multi-platform support--TCP/IP, SMTP (e-mail), HTTP, and DHCP . Of course, the video stream itself is secure behind your router, but you can always open an appropriate port on the router and use the SoloLink DDNS (a trial version is included with the camera) to give password-enabled users access to the camera, or simply leave it unsecured and open for public use. Additional security features include WEP encryption up to 128-bit. There's also a Security Mode feature that sends an email with a video attached whenever its motion detector senses something in the line of vision. Then you can capture the images onto your hard drive. The camera is wall-mountable or can be attached to its stand for desktop use. Its Windows-based setup wizard makes get ting started easy as well. The unit measures 3.35 x 6.10 x 3.15 inches and weighs just over a half pound.

Pros: it works, and its loud
Cons: it runs off of little watch batteries, it can not be used has a door chime because it sounds like a fire alarm, it's just a loud siren, and it already is giving a low battery after it only went off one time.
I would not recommend this product to anyone.

Cisco-Linksys WVC54GC Wireless-G Internet Video Camera Review

Cisco-Linksys WVC54GC Wireless-G Internet Video Camera
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With a long history of many failed attempts at IP wireless cams, Linksys creates what others could not; one that works.
Configuration with WEP was pretty easy. It's a little temperamental with distance compared to the tolerances of other G devices, but it works. It does not react well to low light levels and tries to compensate via its own gain. If you are using this in a home without AMPLE light, expect a grainy picture.
Frame rate is about 20FPS and is annoying. The security feature works. It senses movement and mails a captured video file. With only 4 seconds at the medium setting, the video images were over 500Kb. This is not for a dial-up AOL user.
There is a remote viewing option that lets you use their web servers to hit your cam from anywhere. Of course expect to pay about $40 for two years access.

D-Link D-Life Internet Surveillance Camera Starter Kit (DHA-390) Review

D-Link D-Life Internet Surveillance Camera Starter Kit (DHA-390)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I can't fathom why anybody would actually buy this product. Across the board, everything about it is just plain wrong.
Powerline networking is a relatively good idea, but it looks like the marketing department at D-Link got together one day to see what kind of products they could cram it in to. With this surveillance camera, the implementation is sloppy and unnecessary.
Keep in mind too, that Powerline networking isn't always as straightforward as plugging in a "wall wort" and connecting ethernet to it. If you're using any multi-outlet adapters, or if your home's wiring isn't nearly pristine, the experience can be almost as painful as just running CAT5 cable through your house.
The camera itself is massive compared to any web cam made in the past decade, and assembling it to the base is needlessly complicated for what it is. On the plus side, the base is quite heavy, so it isn't going to be knocked down easily. On the other hand, you absolutely must use wall anchors if you plan to mount the camera on a wall. And given the size of this camera, it's so large and obvious that your baby and pets are the only ones who aren't going to notice it.
Perhaps the most mind boggling issue I have with this kit, is that you can't host it yourself. To see what's on the camera, you have to go to D-Link's site (which is simply not possible if you aren't using Windows and Internet Explorer) and create an account. Once you've done that, you can only see the camera through D-Link's site.
I'm not typically a paranoid person, but that really raised an "Are you serious?" from me. Why the heck would you have a camera in your home broadcasting to D-Link's site? What stops D-Link from peeking in? And perhaps more importantly, what happens if D-Link goes under, or decides that they're just not interested in offering the service anymore? More likely than not, you'll be left with expensive, useless junk.
Don't get me wrong, I can see the value in offering a camera that "just works", but not having the option to host it yourself, and being locked in to Internet Explorer are ridiculous barriers.

Techko S096 Indoor Vibration Sensor Alarm, Solar Powered, Ultra Slim Design Review

Techko S096 Indoor Vibration Sensor Alarm, Solar Powered, Ultra Slim Design
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This device is simply awesome. Some of the great features about it include: It has solar panels on it so no need to plug it in anywhere. It is really ultra slim and allows my vinyl double sliding windows to open and close just fine with the device attached to the window pane. In regards to its sensitivity (Which is the number 1 feature) it is not so sensitive that opening glass windows or doors will trigger it. It is sensitive enough that if you give it a good thump on your glass surface that it will go off. If you have small children do not let the thump your glass sliding door or you will both be blasted with a 30 second + loud noise. One nice feature is that it has an on/off switch so in the event of a false alarm ( some 5 yr old thumping the glass cause he is bored or some stupid bird hitting your glass door) you can run up to the device and hit it off. Then simply turn it back on and its good to go. May I suggest that you wear hearing protection as this device is actually quite loud. If you have a sliding glass door or non-single pane windows get as many as you have panes. So for example I have two paned windows so I have put two devices on just in case the robber is skinny and wants to break through either one.
Another plus is that each unit comes with two stickers that warn potential criminals that this house is under electronic surveillance. One for the window ( you put on the inside of your window) and one for a door.
As for the warranty it is 3 years which is a plus. I have only had them for a few days now so I don't know how defective or not they are. So far so good, 7 out of 7 purchased worked out the box just perfectly. Again I stress ear protection.
In precis, I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants a maintenance free window security device. I also suggest getting some device to detect when the windows are being forced open...as not all criminals want to smash your windows....especially after seeing this device.

Dakota Alert MURS Alert Transmitter Review

Dakota Alert MURS Alert Transmitter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Dakota has a good concept here, but has not provided the quality needed. Having used these for three years in Northern NH, I have had to send all four units back to the factory for repair or replacement, some more than once, in the warranty period. And they are very sensitive to weather. Foggy and rainy weather cuts the effective distance down considerably and has caused water penetration around the antenna. Cold weather will sometimes kill a unit. To Dakota's credit, they repair or replace with no questions asked if the unit is in the warranty period. Personally, I would prefer a higher quality unit the works without any problems.

Q-see 4CH Dvr with Motion Detection & USB 2.0 Port Review

Q-see 4CH Dvr with Motion Detection and USB 2.0 Port
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought one of these along with my neighbor from another site about a year ago. The motion detection is absolutely useless, so if you really want that feature buy another DVR. The remote control isn't intuitive at all so it makes it a little annoying to navigate the menus. If you have less than 4 cameras, you can disable the unused video inputs but when you set it to auto cycle through all the cameras, it still shows the blank blue screen for those inputs. Since this is an entry level CCTV DVR, it doesn't multitask, which means you have to stop recording to playback recordings. Other than those complaints the DVR works fairly well. Once in a while when the power goes out, when the DVR starts up it prompts to recover the HD where it left off, I'm not real sure what that means but it will stay at that prompt forever until you answer the question, which means if it happens while you're on vacation there goes your security system until you get back to say YES. This sounds like a negative review but for the price this isn't too bad of a choice. If you can find a DVR with functional motion detection for around this price, I'd get that one instead.

Warning Alarm Decal (single) Review

Warning Alarm Decal (single)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Given that there was a $[...] shipping charge, I figured the warning sign labels must at least be of substantial size. Got my labels in the mail yesterday and saw they were TINY-- about 1.5" tall and 3" long. They could have easily fit into a small letter envelope and mailed to me for about fifty cents. So what was the $[...] shipping charge for then? The big padded envelope and the fifty page catalog they included to try to entice me to buy more stuff from them? Talk about a bait and switch--- if I wanted to buy a catalog, I would have ordered that separately.
When I flip over the warning sign label and read the back, there is a message from someone else (not Cyberguys, presumably the original manufacturer) that says, "If you want, just send a self-addressed, stamped envelope and $1 per label you want to our address, and we'll send you more." So I guess Cyberguys ordered these tiny labels from the original manufacturer once and now is trying to turn a profit on them by gouging ridiculously on the shipping. Clever idea, but nothing in it for the customer. Folks, don't buy this item.

SecurityMan iCamDVR1B Internet monitoring and Video recording with 1 Outdoor/Indoor Wireless Cameras - Nightvision (Black) Review

SecurityMan iCamDVR1B Internet monitoring and Video recording with 1 Outdoor/Indoor Wireless Cameras - Nightvision (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The camera and receiver seam to work great, minor fluctuations but I expect that from a wireless camera. Camera also has a really good night vision ability. The great downfall of this package however is the DVR. First off it will not work on any system that is running in 64-bits which means most if not all Vista and Windows 7 computers will not be compatible with the DVR. I can't say if the 32-bit versions of the OS work because I don't keep any 32-bit systems around these days. I was annoyed with the fact that the sales page here says nothing about compatibility, I had to go to the manufacturer to learn this. I was forced to return this product when they informed me that there was no plan to update the software to make it work on the 64-bit computers.
My recommendation to potential buyers is to ignore this package and if you want a nice well priced "Wireless Night Vision Camera" get just the camera (see link below) and find a different DVR to pair it with.

Q-See QSOCWC Weatherproof CMOS Camera w/Night Vision (Color) Review

Q-See QSOCWC Weatherproof CMOS Camera w/Night Vision (Color)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased 3 of these cameras to go with a Q-See 4-channel PCI card. I set up all three on my office desk, under good lighting. One camera has a decent image, one camera has a poor image, and the image from the third camera is so washed out that it is practically useless. The night vision feature allows you to make out shapes from very close range, but not much else. Even on the "decent" camera, the color is poor. Prior to this purchase, I was looking at some demo systems at Sam's club, and the image quality with these cameras is much, much worse than even the entry-level, bargain cameras that were being demonstrated. I would recommend that you keep looking for a better camera, as this one has a poor picture quality.

With this system, you get a lot of functionality for less than other home automation systems.
I purchased this system to replace an existing ADT system on a lake home. We wanted the ability to call in and remotely manage the system, including the ability to adjust the thermostat. I left the door and motion sensors in-place, removed the ADT panel in the basement and wired the sensors to the Elk M1G. Everything worked as expected.
The ElkRP programming software is easy to use, but I'm an IT guy - less tech-savvy users may not find it as user friendly. The rules engine configured via the ElkRP software is very customizable. You could quite literally program this system to just about anything. I have a more difficult time thinking of applications than how to program it. Of course, I'm not using it to do anything more than be the alarm system and control the thermostat.
The tech support from Elk Products has been great. [...]
