D-Link DWL-3200AP Managed AP PoE AES SNMP 802.11g Plenum Chassis Review

D-Link DWL-3200AP Managed AP PoE AES SNMP 802.11g Plenum Chassis

Unit is solid and sturdy and has a bit of a utilitarian look to it. The software that comes with it lets you manage multiples of these devices at a time at a layer 2 level, meaning even if you don't know what it's IP address it, it'll find it and you can set it.
I had never setup WPA enterprise before, so it took a little bit of googling and trial and error, but I did get this going.
Device seems "faster" than the Linksys WAP54G we have been using.
I will be getting additional units to replace all the SOHO Linksys & Dell APs we've got in our organization all currently running WEP...

Lorex CVC6985U Professional Indoor/Outdoor Security Camera (Black) Review

Lorex CVC6985U Professional Indoor/Outdoor Security Camera (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased a different model lorex 150 foot night vision camera and was amazed at the quality. That camera has beat 60mph winds, snow, and rain without a problem while still producing a clear picture since day one. For that reason I purchased the model LOREX CVC6985U and had nothing but good thoughts on my way outside to install this thing.
Thinking ahead I decided to test the camera out before climbing +15 feet in the air and mounting it. That's when the feel good story came to an end. This camera while producing a very nice picture does not recognize black and grey clothing, so it displays those colors as green. I could not believe it so I changed to another black shirt and it once again showed green. I then panned to a black garbage container and it was black, then I panned to a black grill set and it was black. However, I panned back to my black shirt and it showed green. I then went inside and randomly recorded black images around the house all of which looked fine, however, the conclusion was that once my black clothing was recorded they were green which puzzles me. I then unplugged the cable off a surveillance monitor and ran the cable to a hd tv and same deal. Green Green Green shirts and pants. I can only imagine someone installing this camera and not testing it out and end up giving the police the description of a burglar with a green shirt, green hat, and green pants. Maybe I just have a defective model. If that is the case, This review will change to reflect that once a replacement unit is had. Until then ***TEST*** this camera before you climb up the ladder.**Update**
Replacement unit was received and the same problem mentioned above occurs. It was told to me that this model Lorex CVC6985U, was not produced with what's called an IR-Cut off filter mechanism. That means the colors will not be accurate and true to life. I wish they would state that on the box as I have and have seen plenty of other Lorex cameras and none of them have this issue. This camera is marketed as Day/night just like the rest and on the box it shows a garden, people in a store, and other outside activities. Nothing however, expresses the fact that black, grey, and other dark colors will display as loud green because the company decided to not include a filter on the lens' of the camera. I have $20 cameras that have this filter. If your a professional and know how to install this filter on the lens(You might void the warranty) this might be a good camera. However, if your one of the many D-I-Y'ers keep looking and if your buying a Lorex make sure the camera has a filter installed stock from the factory.

Schlage LiNK Wireless Keypad Deadbolt Starter Kit System, Aged Bronze Review

Schlage LiNK Wireless Keypad Deadbolt Starter Kit System, Aged Bronze
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just purchased the Schlage Link from amazon.com, got it yesterday, and followed the instructions exactly. Watch out. It's a trainwreck. Here's the rundown step by step:
1. After pairing the bridge to my schlage lock and lamp module, I went online to register. Before you can do ANYTHING, before you can even test that the box is working, you must give them a credit card which they charge up front and enroll you in a monthly subscription. You can't do anything without paying them monthly, and there's no trial period or anything to see that the device works before you enroll. And they told me on the phone this subscription enrollment is non-refundable even if the device doesn't work and I return it to Amazon. So, the bottom line is, I had to start paying them up front just to find out that the product is totally broken.
2. When you try to pay them, the web browser (firefox) gives warnings that Schlage's online security certificate is not properly setup. The only way to proceed is to click "exceptions", even though Firefox warns you that you should never do this and no legitimate company will ask you to. Screen shot attached. If Schlage doesn't even have the technical skills to secure their online credit card page and keep my credit card safe, something every mom and pop etailer can do, how on earth do they expect me to trust that their lock entry system is safe? Clearly they don't trust themselves since, the first step of the online process, requires you to accept terms and conditions that waive any responsibility on their part, even if they are negligent.
3. During the setup I chose to have them send the cell phone app to my Blackberry. The cell phone app, also, does not have a security certificate and the Blackberry warns you that it's unsigned and untrusted.
4. Right now, you cannot use the Schlage link with ANY cameras or thermostats or sensors or scene controllers or handheld remotes or any of the other hundreds of ZWaves devices out there, except basic lamp modules. Schlage confirmed this when I called their support line. They said that in a few months they will sell a Schlage brand camera and it will work with their camera, but not with 3rd party IP cameras. So my Panasonic IP cameras will not work at all and I have to buy all new Schlage cameras; which, btw, don't appear to have pan/tilt/audio and other stuff like the Panasonic.
5. At this point I've resigned that this bridge will, basically, just allow me to control the Schlage lock, and for everything else I will need another gateway. But, wait, it gets worse. The web interface at Schlage's site says my bridge is disconnected. But that's wrong. It ---IS--- connected. And I can login to my dhcp server and see that it's getting an IP. So it is plugged in and working. There is NOTHING in Schlage's documentation to explain this. The green light on the bridge is blinking 3 times. But there is nothing to indicate if this is normal, or an error. So I call Schlage's customer support line. I get bounced around between low level operators who know nothing more than to read trouble shooting guides. They ask stupid questions that prove they don't know what they're talking about. They ask me to try removing/reinserting the ethernet cable. At this point the bridge locks up; all the lights stop working. We need to remove the battery to get it working again. Then we need to exclude and pair again the lock and lamp module. Still nothing. They tell me to get a longer ethernet cable (mine is 6') so I can move the Schlage bridge further from my network router. Huh??? It's not a wi-fi device, it's hardwired. What's that about? They can't give me a technical explanation, just saying it's on their trouble shooting guide that the Schlage should not be too close to the router. After an hour on the phone, they say that an engineer will need to look into it and get back to me. They can't give me a timetable. And they don't have any answer about getting back the money they charged me up front for their subscription.
Bottom line: the lock works as a lock. You can lock/unlock it with a key and with the pin pad. But the bridge is a joke. It doesn't work at all. And it's impossible to troubleshoot because, although the bridge gets an IP address, it doesn't run a web server or telnet or anything else to let you log into the bridge itself and see what's wrong. All you can do is login through schlage.com and see that "the bridge is disconnected". Therefore, without a way to talk to the bridge locally on my network, and with the bridge unable to connect to schalge's online service, I seriously doubt they'll ever be able to get it working and imagine it's just a black brick. After all, if the Schlage bridge is too buggy to get a network connection and find the Schlage server, how will it ever upgrade, since there's no way for me to talk to it over my local network.
The part that pisses me off the most is that I had to pay up front for their stupid subscription just to find out this thing doesn't work and can't get my money back! So watch out!

Actually I didn't read where the camera goes to black and white at night.Although the black and white is cystal clear it makes no attempt to go to color with any light source. During the day the wide angle lense offers a sensational wide view of whatever you point it at with crisp colors and great view. This camera make no mistake about it is everything the ad says. This is my first day so I am hoping it continues to operate as stated.

X-10 PowerHorn 110 Decibel Security Siren PH508/PSH01 Review

X-10 PowerHorn 110 Decibel Security Siren PH508/PSH01
Average Reviews:

The siren is rated at about 110dB however when it's blocked by an object the sound level drops significantly. I tried to place the siren to face the vent but the result is muffed alarm and you can barely hear it from another room.
After some googling I found some FAQ saying that this unit can be modified to act as a relay switch to turn on siren of your choice, so I got a 12VDC 30watt dual-tone siren and some components ready, ideally I can install this weather-proof horn outdoor and it'll attract neighbor's attention. We'll see how it goes.

This a middle / lower end CCTV camera: It does work (you can't always assume that these days), the optics are good and it has a sturdy cast aluminum mount. If you're looking for something that can read newspaper print from a half mile away: This product isn't for you. But if you're a small business or homeowner looking for a variable zoom, fixed camera, this is perfect.
As for the video quality, I'm very pleased: I bought this to get the license plate number off any vehicle that parks in my driveway. Zoomed all the way in, at ranges of less than 20 feet or less you'll easily read the tag numbers / letters. Its 540 line resolution is impressive and the image is sharp without scanning lines or noise. The overall size is larger than I expected, but it isn't unreasonable and it seems well suited for the outdoors. The wires are concealed inside the mount, but you can have them run externally if you want.
As for the low light IR illumination, I can't review that. My outdoor lighting doesn't really let it "down shift" into night-time mode. I assume the power supply works, but I have a distribution panel and didn't need it. My only complaint is that they got the labels "zoom" and "focus" backwards. Not a big deal.
